Missouri Pharmacy Tech Requirements

Although certification is not required prior to Missouri technician registration, pharmacy technician certification is required for pharmacy technicians who are:

  1. Administering medication by prescription order, as delegated by a pharmacist
  2. Administering vaccines, as delegated by a pharmacist, or
  3.  Assisting at a Class R Remote Dispensing Site pharmacy when the pharmacist is not present/supervising. (See rules 20 CSR 2220-2.600, 20 CSR 2220-6.040, and 20 CSR 2220-6.050 for additional requirements for these activities)

Pharmacy technician certification is not required to be registered as a Missouri pharmacy technician. However, it’s increasingly likely that your employer will require you be certified.

Missouri State Specific Requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Obtain a Proof of Fingerprinting by visiting 3M/Cogent ($44.80 Fee)
  • Submit an application ($35) and mail to the Missouri Board of Pharmacy, PO Box 625, Jefferson City, MO 65102
  • Attach a 2×2 “passport style” photo to the application
  • Renew license annually on May 31st ($35 Fee)

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Requirements:

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Continuing Education Requirements:

  • Obtain 20 hours of Continuing Education (CE) during 2 year re-certification cycle
  • 1 hour must be in Pharmacy Law, 1 hour must be in Patient Safety
  • All Continuing Education must be Tech-Specific
  • The PTCB Re-certification Fee is $40 and is payable to the PTCB every 2 years
